Last year, I had an occasion to post an article on another site suggesting that there be a re-examination of the Second Amendment to the Constitution and the concept of gun control. The needs and demands of the eighteenth century, when the Second Amendment to the Constitution was drafted, are not totally applicable to current society. The proponents of gun control and those in favor of a virtually unfettered right of an individual’s right to own a gun unfortunately tend to think in terms of slogans and bumper stickers. Others profess to be hunters who choose to search for their food rather than visiting the local supermarket, establishing their ability to conquer unarmed deer.

A Wonderful Thanksgiving

November 23rd 2007 19:04
Every year, for the past 45 years or so, we have had a Thanksgiving dinner and family gathering in our home; yesterday was no exception. For three or four days, The Lovely Joan, purchased the “makings” and then proceeded to cook a fantastic meal: cheese platters, veggies and dips, provided by one daughter, turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes and marshmallows, curried fruit, 12 pounds of mashed potatoes, corn pudding, gravy, five kinds of pies, and on and on. We had originally planned on 18 to 20 people and by the time yesterday arrived, the guest list had grown to nearly 30!

Among the gang were a dozen or so children, ages 2 through 18, including grandsons Joshua and Jake, 18 and 11 respectively. As readers of my various musings and commentaries, I have strongly held opinions and love, absolutely love, being challenged by people who are prepared to offer rational argument

WWW outdoes herself

November 19th 2007 00:07
In a recent post, my fellow writer outdoes herself. In a short post, only 212 words, she manages to suggest that Senator Clinton “has some dirt on” Senator Obama. She, immediately, acknowledges that there may not be anything scandalous in his background but, just for the fun of it and just on the off chance the snickering reportage sticks, WWW suggests possible scandals that might, just might, be true!

What can she use to tar Senator Obama? Here WWW puts words in Senator Clinton’s mouth and suggests possible areas in which Senator Obama just might have flaws. Not that she is accusing him of these issues, but, what the Hell, it’s fun to make the suggestion

A Cure for Arthritis Pain? Stay tuned.

November 15th 2007 20:31
I am afflicted (cursed?) with arthritis pain, especially in the knees and fingers. Because of medications I take for other conditions, I cannot take any pain medication other than acetaminophen. The usual anti-inflammatory drugs are also out of the question.

I have not yet tried copper bracelets but this may have been my next try

I am, as many know, a retired trial attorney. In that capacity, I represented, or was an “advocate” for many diverse types and individuals. I hesitate to challenge one who is “God’s Advocate”; while some of my former clients may have had temporal power, none would be able to part the Red Sea, rain lightning bolts, and brimstone on unworthy communities or turn a disobedient woman into a pillar of salt!

On the other hand, some perspective is needed and worthwhile

A friend is gone. He will be missed.

November 13th 2007 03:31
I received a very disturbing e-mail a few hours ago. Klaus Winter, known to me and many others, on this site and Associated Content, as Youranter, passed away last Sunday, November 11th.

I knew Klaus only through his posted opinions, which often took a position with which I disagreed. Our discussions were always polite, mutually respectful and I, for one, will miss him greatly.

A fellow writer on Orble has written a post on the possible enactment of the extension of the Federal Nondiscrimination statute to include sexual orientation, in her usual “Chicken Little, The Sky is Falling” mode. Moreover, a number of her comments to the article reflect a disturbing misunderstanding of the risk of frivolous lawsuits. This writer has a broad depth of inaccurate or incomplete knowledge which she trots out to justify condemnation of a, as she puts it, “new crop of liberal politicians”.

I had been determined to ignore the Wicked Witch of the West, but this most recent bit of silliness requires addressing

This is, most likely, “Good-Bye”

November 3rd 2007 16:06
I have been submitting articles to Orble since last July and have written a total of 64 posts, not including this one. My submissions have been both general and frivolous and political, the latter from a frankly liberal/progressive/libertari an viewpoint.

Over the past months, I have come into conflict with a woman who has opinions that differ from mine and who has attacked me sufficiently and continuously enough for me to either declare victory and quit the battlefield or declare defeat and still leave

War: a shared responsibility

November 2nd 2007 13:12
An excellent post was published by Gina-Marie Cheeseman on her site, politicsandculture.net, discussing the resolution pending in Congress which would address the respective roles of the Legislative and Executive in the conduct of war.

Ms Cheeseman concludes
