Welcome to the new guys!

November 17th 2008 19:16
I am very pleased to note that this Blog now has two new participants.

Both, Jim Clayton and M-Kaz, are, as I understand it, to my right in political opinion; I certainly welcome them and trust that the Orble community will do the same. It is my wish that this Blog be somewhere in the center

Sacrifice must be made

November 13th 2008 23:51
I commend to everyone my call for President Obama to understand, recognize and convince the American public that we are on a “war footing”. We must accept the need for sacrifice.

If you feel the articles warrant comment, please make them on that site

Dual systems of values and laws

November 10th 2008 14:39
When I graduated law school, a long, long time ago, I was awarded the “LL.B.” degree. Those of us who are familiar with the “double L” recognize that it a plural form and refers to “civil and Ecclesiastical laws”, inferring a dual and parallel legal system. In later years, in England, the systems merged to some extent but there remains a duality.
The social-conservative wing of the Republican Party has had two primary fears and, often, actual hatred, of Barack Obama.

Marci Hamilton wrote this article weeks before the U.S. election. It is extremely worthwhile reading and I urge everyone to do so.

Ralph Nader – what were you thinking?

November 7th 2008 17:13
A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, back when Ralph Nader and I were both considerably younger, he was a hero. Fiercely independent, an equal opportunity gadfly to selfish, greedy corporations and individuals, on the Left and on the Right, Mr. Nader single handedly improved safety standards for United States automobiles and, was one of the good guys.

In his more recent years, he ran for President in his third party, siphoned enough Florida votes from Al Gore so as to make the of George W. Bush possible and began becoming a caricature of himself. When he, again, decided to run in 2008, he was again a “spoiler” and one whom I was concerned would cause Barack Obama’s defeat

Deja vu -- all over again

November 7th 2008 16:45
It is, today, November 7, 2008, three days following the election that followed a campaign that lasted, it seems, forever. So long, in fact, that it wore out the candidates, the public and even junkies like me. It has already been pointed out in the press and political columns that the Ohio caucuses will be coming up in April, 2010, and the next presidential election will be conducted in about 1470 days, more or less.

The story in the papers yesterday was that Mike Huckabee was going to be in Ohio within the next two weeks. In addition, supporters of Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, Republicans, and Hillary Clinton are poised to file exploratory committees. And Barack Obama won’t start his presidency for another 75 days
