About Me

July 4th 2008 01:40
First let me say I am humbled and excited to be asked to join this site with Mr. Stillman. As he said we write on another site, and our views vary just enough for us to have some interesting debates.

First a little about me, my name is Randy Inman and I am 38 going on 100 years old. I live in the great state of North Carolina. If you ever read the book or watched the movie Cold Mountain, that is based on the life of one of my great, great uncles. I am engaged and have one child of my own and three future step kids.

About my views, sometimes they change but not often. I guess moderate conservative would fit me best, but not the democrat butt kissing type of moderate. I will give a general overview of my outlook on some of the major issues.

Obama- I can’t stand him and think he is a hard line communist and domestic terrorist supporter.

McCain- I don’t like him either but a vote for him is slightly less liberal than Obama is or Clinton would have been.

Iraq- we never should have went in there. But now that we are there we should try to stabilize the country before we leave.

Economy- the Economy would be fine if we kept our jobs here instead of outsourcing them.

Gun Control- Gun Control does indeed mean hitting the target! But I am not stupid about it. I have no problem with waiting periods, or background checks. As a matter of fact I think gun safety training should be mandatory in high schools.

Immigration- I say seal the borders and figure out who exactly is in our country. Criminals should be deported out. But if a person is illegal but here working trying to make a better life for his family, then invite him to stay, and pay taxes.

Welfare- I am all for welfare if a person needs a helping hand. But they shouldn’t draw a check to sit on their butt. If they are getting money or services, they should be in job training, and or out cleaning up neighborhoods.

Energy- We should look for clean safe forms of energy but until they are here, we should use our own oil. We should be able to drill in Alaska or wherever our oil may be.

Criminals- We need to build more prisons and lose the frills. If prison is so hard nobody wants to go there, crime will drop. I don’t mean torture I mean no televisions, and no extra food or soft drinks that they can buy. They should also be in mandatory job training and ethics training. For that matter they shouldn’t get out of prison until they can pass a GED class if they have no diploma.
John McCain
McCain or Bush would be better than Obama.

Interesting combination Randy. I always enjoy reading Jim's posts so it will be interesting reading your perspective on all things going on in the US this year.

Welcome Randy, I look forward to reading your posts, I disagree mostly with jim's politics, but I think he is a class act.

Interesting ... Randy, our politics are pretty close to the same (and I thought I was really special). I am probably a little more conservative in a couple of areas but then I am very much in favor of gun control (but not prevention). I look forward to following your comments.

Re your thoughts on Obama and McCain ... Obama is the worst thing that can happen to this country at this time; unfortunately, McCain is the second worst ... just my opinion. Partisan politics have again deprived the voting public of an opportunity to make a choice between two good candidates.

I hope you have some fun with this endeavor.

The submitted comments indicate that a moderating viewpoint is necessary and will be appreciated. Most of all, it will be fun.

Unlike some writers on Orble, I enjoy reading comment on my posts that are critical of my opinions, that dare me to back up those opinions with facts. While I am a member of the ACLU and have political views that have not been in vogue over the past 20 years, I read conservative publications such as Human Events and even listen to Fox commentators on the radio. Randy has a inquiring and curious mind and is willing to explore alternate views.

It will be fun!

hmmm...I would hardly say that calling Obama a hardline Communist and terror supporter, or calling McCain a liberal is moderate, but hey...that's part of the problem. Since Reagan the entire political spectrum has moved so far to the right that what used to be moderate or even conservative (like Eisenhower) is now called far left.
Also - we in America are already the most imprisoned nation on earth - builiding more doesn't seem to be working so well, now does it?

Yeah, I second Jeff's comments. Not that conservative Americans care what the rest of the world thinks, but really what you guys consider the loony left is mainstream thought to us. Obama and Hilary Clinton would both be Centrists in Australia. And compared to much of Europe, we are pretty conservative.

Libs don't like me calling Obama a communist but they should embrace it. That is the ideals he is spouting just call it what is is.

I am moderate in other views but am not a robot to embrace the right and all it's thoughts.

I used to be a firearm's dealer and have many guns but I don't cry about waiting periods and such. That isn't a hardline stance to the right.

I do think the far right is almost as nuts as the far left. Stress almost.

Okay then, what ideals? Which of his policies point to Obama's communism?

What sort of Communist is he? Marxist? Stalinist? Maoist?

What?

I believe he would be considered a Marxist. I am researching more about that for a post here. But for now check this out

I read your link, and the innuendo is think enough to cut and spread on bread. It even cites the House Un-American Activities Committee - Joe McCarthy would be so proud. The link also says he read Communist literature - oh, no! Perhaps you should read Das Kapital, then you could define a Marxist. I have read Ayn Rand, and damn - it didn't turn me into no-holds-barred, damn the people capitalist! If our current president was a tad more well read perhaps we might be in a better situation.
The write up also criticized Obama for wanting to fight poverty and fulfill obligations to the UN. We are one of the few major countries in default, and should be ashamed of that.
That said, I wish Obama were more of a Socialist. I am a Democratic Socialist myself, and work for the day when we have more social justice and equality in America. I won't deny that Obama is a small step in that direction. I will add that McCain is one more step to Fascism, and at this point that's alot shorter trip than social justice.
By the way, I agree with your welfare stance. But job training and/or work programs are socialist, aren't they?

Comment by Randy Inman

July 7th 2008 16:08
As I said I am not a hard line conservative in all issues. Some of Socialism makes sense. In a perfect world it WOULD be a great system. But it has been proven over and over to not work. They didn't have a wall in Berlin to keep Captialists from sneaking IN there.

Comment by Jeff Musall

July 7th 2008 16:38
But it is working, and we can learn from it. It is working all across Europe, especially Scandanavia which seems to have refined the balance between captialism and socialism. Just look into how things are going there, how pleased the people are (Denmark has been called the "happiest place on earth, while Iceland and Norway have been deemed the best to live) Want more proof? They are moving away from oil, while we continue to embrace it. Look at the Euro compared to the dollar. You cite the Berlin Wall, even though the Soviet Union was not real socialism, it was a military dictatorship. I'm not saying we need to go willy over a Communist hill, but there are things we could learn. Even the former Soviet countries are moving to viable economies that center around social justice.

Comment by Randy Inman

July 7th 2008 16:47
Just because it works there does not mean it will work here. American people are used to getting ahead if they work hard. When communisim takes that away from them, they won't work hard. China didn't crawl out of the 3rd world until they started using capitalist ideas.

Comment by Randy Inman

None of us look like Jude Law lol.

Death Penalty- I am for it if the evidence is irrefutable.

Euthanasia- I watched my dad die a slow cancer death. I am for Euthanasia.

Abortion- Against it as a use for birth control

Sex Ed in School- I am all for it.

Religion in School- All for it, even though I am agnostic.

I will throw one in extra

Gay Marriage- I am for it. Nobody has the right to tell two adults of any gender who they can marry

hey Randy,
you really are all over the place with your politics, good to see!
i never understand why people who are left on one issue are automatically sympathetic to all left causes, or vice versa with the right
take each issue and evaluate it on its merits i say!
and also i think it is a "moderate" quality to give "grey area" answers to questions like you just did, to say yes but with conditions, it shows you have thought about it a bit . . . im sure i wont agree with you on alot of things but i look forward to reading more!
