Both Left and Right miss the point

Last week, in Oakland, California, four police officers were killed by an ex-felon undergoing a “routine” traffic stop. Over the past several days, I have read and heard commentary from the far-right lunatic fringe in the form of Michael Savage and the breast-beating excuses from liberal groups, each in their own way explaining the killings as the result of outside forces, excusing to some extent the moral, social and legal responsibility of the killer.
Two motorcycle officers were assassinated by a wanted ex-convict, Lovelle Mixon during a traffic stop. Later in the day, with an AK-47 assault weapon in hand, Mixon killed two members of the department's SWAT team, before he was killed by the SWAT team.
The reactions of the right and left illustrate a common unconcern for the officers that were killed or whether any responsibility should fall upon Mr. Mixon.
Michael Savage, who by any rational standard, is a fruit-case, totally bizarre and probably, to use a formal psychiatric term, nuts, blames the tragedy on President Obama, San Francisco Bay “hippies” and homosexual and transgendered police administrators..
The other evening Mr. Savage was in fine high dungeon. He explained the killing of the police officers on there being a transsexual woman, Theresa Sparks, as President of the San Francisco Police Commission. Mr. Savage then lapsed into his usual homophobic rants.
But first, he blamed the shootings on
Savage also managed to place responsibility on Barack Obama (“The radical left, ‘including Obama, dream[s] of Maoist revolution with death camps’ ), Democratic politicians and anyone to the left of Attila the Hun.
So it’s clear, the four officers died because of liberals, homosexuals and general low-lifes
.
The Left is no better when it comes to assigning blame and responsibility on Mr. Mixon.
The liberal orientated site AlterNet called the shootings “a horrible aberration” but then explained, if not excused, the attack on the officers in this manner:
The killing of four police officers in Oakland shows the desperation of an ex-felon. Lovelle Mixon was trying to avoid going back to jail and at the same time unable to find any employment that would give him a second chance. It’s a story repeated all over America, even if it does not always end in a killing spree as it did in Oakland
So four officers are killed because this man, with a long history of criminal behavior and a life of multiple incarcerations, couldn’t find a job, felt himself discriminated against and just didn’t want to go back to jail. It’s society’s fault that Mr. Mixon chose to kill, that he had possession of guns and assault weapons [well, perhaps that is partially true considering America’s unwillingness to control guns].
How about placing the blame and responsibility on the person who was responsible: Lovelle Mixon made the decision to kill; there is nothing that would justify that. Many people who are not ex-felons have no work, many of these law abiding people are having their mortgages foreclosed and some are seeing their automobiles towed away on behalf of banks and finance companies. They don’t shoot anyone.
Nor can the “race card” be dealt. Some far left bloggers and apologists suggest that racial discrimination caused Mr. Mixon to kill.
I agree that rehabilitation programs in prison are not that effective. I agree that a released prisoner has a rough time getting a job and there is genuine frustration involved. But nothing, absolutely nothing, justifies killing anyone.
Lovelle Mixon had choices, made the election to carry a gun (itself a felony) and kill four officers. He is also dead – and, again, this was his choice.
Really Long Link

“BARBARA BOXER – HERE IS A WOMAN WHO HAS DEDICATED HER ENTIRE POLITICAL CAREER TO UNDERMINING THE RIGHTS OF LAW ABIDING AMERICAN CITIZENS AND HAS BEEN DECIDEDLY COOL TOWARDS LAW ENFORCEMENT.
DIANNE FEINSTEIN – THE QUEEN OF DIAMONDS WAS SOFT-SPOKEN AS ALWAYS, BUT OF COURSE AS WE ALL KNOW, SHE TALKS SOFTLY, BUT CARRIES A GRUDGE AGAINST REAL CONSERVATIVE INSTITUTIONS LIKE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER – THE STREUDEL-MUNCHER MADE IT TO THE MEMORIAL AS WELL. AND WHILE HE DOES A GOOD JOB OF PRETENDING TO BE ON THE SIDE OF THE POLICE, HE’S SOLD OUT CONSERVATIVES OFTEN ENOUGH TO MAKE THAT QUESTIONABLE.
RON DELLUMS [Mayor of Oakland]– IT TURNS OUT THAT ONE OF THE FAMILIES OF THE FALLEN POLICE ASKED RON DELLUMS NOT TO SPEAK AT THE MEMORIAL, A REQUEST WHICH – AMAZINGLY – HE HONORED. ONE SMALL POINT OF LIGHT IN A VERY DIFFICULT TIME.
GAVIN NEWSOM [San Francisco mayor]– ANY-TWOSOME NEWSOM IS SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF SAN FRANCISCO THAT HE HIRED A COMPLETE INCOMPETENT TO RUN THE DEPARTMENT. HE WAS INVITED TO THE CEREMONY TODAY; WHY, ONLY HIS HAIRDRESSER KNOWS FOR SURE.”

But with that said I agree with Mr. savage assumption of the character of the liberal nut cases like, Boxer, Feinstein, Schwarzernegger, Newsom, the others I don't know so I can't give my opinion of them.
Just to be clear they did not cause the horrible actions, but they are horrible people in their own rights.
