Just in case there is anyone out there who gives a damn…

July 10th 2009 13:47

Several months ago, S.L. Bradish suggested a debate on some current topic with someone whose views were different from hers. I accepted the offer/challenge and, over the past month or so, we exchanged views on “abortion” on myapologetics. hosted and moderated by Damo. While neither SL nor I expected to have the other converted to our point of view, we thought a civil, mature exchange of views might be interesting, increase traffic and, Lord willing, make a bit of money!

It now appears that, for reasons of which I am not aware, Damo’s site has been removed and the “debate” gone.

Now I read that SL is leaving Orble; many comments complain that only liberals and progressives have a voice on Orble. It is all a matter of perception because my experience has been that most participants have been coming from the Right, many writers parroting Fox News and making fun of our President and his Administration.

If anyone is interested in the abortion exchange of views, the material can be found at

The most disappointing aspect to this entire affair is the utter lack of interest in a rational exchange of opinions.

Hope is eternal! If there are any writers out there who would be willing to enter into rational and civil discourse, please let me know.

Jim

I have been intermittantly on Orble over the last few weeks but obviously by some of the commentary some of the usual vile has been going back and forth.

I understand it that Damo decided to leave of his own accord and so have a few others. I didn't know about S.L.

I try to keep out of the antagonism where I can. It just gets a bit much but lately I have obviously missed a lot.

Keep it up and keep well. I have seen your post on Examiner.

Jim, I certainly give a damn. I've been reading your posts with a great deal of interest

I thought the debate was awesome, Jim. I have to go back and read the newest parts of it yet. It's on my list. I'm sad so many people are leaving. I'd get into a civil debate with you, but I think we mostly agree

i read your debate at the time and thought you handled yourself well, even though you were the only one putting forth logical arguments

i presume we would agree on most things, but if you ever want to debate something i could probably argue either side just for sport

i much prefer rational and civil discourse

maybe something like prostitution, stat rape, or drug laws . . . im sure they are issues with some middle ground

let me know

drug laws

Oh baby let me at it!

I read your debate, but for some reason I can't remember seeing your closing arguments... Didn't you get sick or hurt yourself or something along those lines?

Thanks for the links, that was a great debate and I was quite disappointed when Damo took it down.

Jim, I'm just glad to see you back! I hope you are doing well.

Yes, it's disappointing that Damo is gone, and all the "problems" here at orble. I hadn't heard that S.L was leaving - though we don't often agree, she'll be missed.

It would be awesome to see more "rational exchange of opinion" around here. Like Morgan, we probably agree on most issues, but I'd be happy to debate if anyone wants to. (Though I already know I couldn't do nearly as good a job as you did on the abortion debate!)

Jim,
I think it shows signs of maturity and firmness in one's beliefs when you can have a rational debate, and you're not threatened by other's beliefs. I think a lot of people forget that, especially when someone is insecure. I applaud your debating skills!
