Not anti-gun, anti-stupid

First, although I feel that strict gun registration is necessary, and believe (contrary to the U.S. Supreme Court) that the right to bear arms is a collective right and only as part of a “well regulated militia”, the people who have been attending town hall meetings at which the president is appearing, displaying weapons of all shapes and sizes, including multi-firing assault guns, have a legal right to do so, if in accordance with applicable state laws. They have the legal right to have loaded weapons at or outside of such forums; they are incredibly stupid to do so.
We have, in this country, a horrible history of presidents being threatened, shot at and killed. I would assume that the rate of assaults against presidents is far higher than that of the average person. Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. Fifteen of the 44 have been assassinated, shot and wounded, or been the object of an assault by someone or a group with a grudge and a gun.
Four attempts on sitting presidents have been successful; Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley and John Kennedy all were killed. Two other presidents were injured in assassination attempts, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan. There have been many more documented attempts on presidential lives, some coming very close to success. Franklin Roosevelt was shot at in Miami a month before his inauguration; he was uninjured but Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak was killed. Gerald Ford was the object of an assassination attempt by “Squeaky” Fromme. All in all, some 90 attempts to kill a president or president-elect have been reported.
In the light of this history, the actions of a few coming armed to an event featuring the President of the United States borders on the bizarre and absurd. Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, agreed with this assessment on the Chris Matthews program on MSNBC.
The discussion is worth noting.

I have MSNBC blocked on my TV so as not to get to riled over their "reporting". Oh ... wait ... NBC and ABC ... the political infomercial stations for Mr. Obama.
I am a second ammendment rights guy ... but also believe in common sense. Meanwhile time to stock up on more can goods and ammo. Can't have too much of either.

And Rick, just an idea- consider throwing that block on FOX, just for giggles....

Jeff ... I stopped watching FOX a while back. I have been watching CNN but there is a lot of political bias there as well ... seems to me to go both ways though, depending on the commentator. I get frustrated when only part of a story is represented which happens a lot, or the "facts" are not explained, or a quote that is taken from context.
Well, next time I am going to design the world and humanity and they will be perfect ... at least for me.
Hope you guys have a good day.
