The Green Slime starts and the eating of kittens
June 11th 2008 12:12
The Lovely Joan was speaking the other morning to her New Jersey sister-in-law who explained why she and many of her friends would not vote for Barack Obama. Whenever challenged to explain specifically why Senator Obama was in such disfavor among Jews who acknowledge that Democrats are more likely be in favor of more liberal-progressive programs and policies than the GOP, the responses are not at all clear. There is, from that which I gather, an almost visceral feeling that the Democratic nominee is lacking in patriotism, experience and attitude; he is, ultimately, unready or unfit to be president. There is, unfortunately, an undercurrent of racism, an emotion that should be identified and utterly rejected by a group such as Jews or other minorities who have been the victim of prejudice over the centuries.
At the heart of the negative feelings are the masses of e-mail and person-to-person suggestions that Senator Obama is anti-Israel, anti-Jewish, weak, inexperienced, a close associate of weird and anti-American and anti-Caucasian people and a general all around bad guy.
The rumors, accusations and ugly tales are similar to the Green Slime known to all who are familiar with the TV program Nickelodeon: messy, sticky and impossible to overlook.
Thus a classic case of “Swift Boating” for 2008 is created. The slimy tactic so effective against John Kerry (and Michael Dukakis with the Willie Horton ads and Bill Clinton – maybe Hillary killed Vince Foster?) is used again. Ironically, Senator McClain was the victim of similar smears during the South Carolina primary eight years ago. The George Bush supporters promoted the story that he had fathered a Black child out of wedlock (referring to the Senator’s adopted daughter from Bangladesh), that he was a homosexual, his wife was a drug addict and that he was a brain-washed traitor or mentally unstable as a result of his imprisonment during the Vietnam war. One would think that Senator McCain of all people would be at the forefront of condemning the smears and slime.
It’s easy, sometime, to identify the sources of these stories; they are often 527 GOP related groups. (It has been suggested that many of the accusations that Senator Obama would be anti-Israel or, worse, anti-Jewish came from the Hillary Clinton camp; an article in the March 3rd, 2008, issue of Newsweek seems convincing.) It is more difficult to identify the specific groups that are so intent on poisoning Jewish attitudes toward Senator Obama that they play upon fear. What is clear, however, is that Senator Obama is a supporter of Israel and a believer of a national restraint on our part that, in the long run, will protect that nation better than a weakened United States, non-respected and a pariah among western democracies.
I have made no secret that I favor the election of Barack Obama.

Specifically, the rumors and accusations can be grouped. First, Barack Hussein Obama is a product of Islamic education and not “American” enough. Second, as demonstrated by his long-term association with his Church and its pastor, Jeremiah Wright, Senator Obama hates America and is anti-Caucasian and his wife cannot be trusted either. Third, Senator Obama, if president, will take the side of the Arabs and Palestinian terrorists all to the detriment of the only true democracy in the Middle East, Israel.
Some of the accusations are self-contradictory. On one hand, he is a Moslem. On the other hand, he takes his “marching orders” from Christian clergy and their afro-centric views. In subsequent posts, I will examine the current slime.

To prove the point just look at his associations.

Is there really any substance to this claim? That's really horrifying. To have a rumour like that started by your own party members. I'm so glad we don't have your electoral system here.

I intend to discuss some of the nastiness. In the meantime, I am indebted to a post on a New York Times blog pointing out that a Google search on Obama eating kittens is interesting!

Sounds to me like he slimes himself every time he opens his mouth.

Nope, he didn't say that.!
Stay tuned because I am going to post "chapter and verse" on why these are an example of negative, slimy ads.
