WWW Attacks Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Liberal!

December 29th 2007 16:41
What has the world come to? I am defending the actions of a conservative Republican!

Actually, she suggests, in keeping with her usual sexual hang-ups, that

California’s "Governator" Schwarzenegger seems to be making a career of having his liberal "fly" unzipped. Not in the same sense that Bill Clinton did, of course. Nope, Arnold is showing something far more dangerous. And he's showing it to a whole state! Not just one woman at a time.

What has California’s Governor, who identifies himself and runs for election, as a conservative Republican, done to incur WWW’s ire? He has had the nerve, the effrontery, the gall to suggest that second-hand passive smoke within the confines of a closed vehicle may be harmful to children.

Some months ago, I researched this issue and wrote about the established harm to kids. Really Long Link As shown by the many studies and objective scientific and medical studies listed in that article: there is no longer any rational argument against the proposition that children, especially, will suffer harm when continually exposed to second hand or passive smoke in a closed environment. The American Medical Association, the World Health Organization and, even, Philip Morris are unanimous in this view.

A number of states already ban smoking in automobiles in the presence children: Texas, Louisiana, Vermont, Washington and Arkansas, hardly all bastions of liberalism – at least not Texas and Arkansas, the states of Bush (43) and Mike Huckabee

But WWW cannot resist mentioning President Clinton’s private behavior.

In a second post, accusing the Governor of California of having liberal thoughts, WWW complains that California is about to release non-violent inmates in order to control overcrowding in jails and prisons. Here anti-tax (above all) Republicans come face to face with the realities of governance. According to the International Centre for Prison Studies from London’s King College, of the 9 million people held in penal institutions, worldwide, nearly 3 million are incarcerated in the United States. In the United States, the incarceration rate is 714 per 100,000 population. Contrast this with Canada’s rate of 116, Great Britain’s 142 and Australia at 117!

California’s prison crisis is similar to other states but more so. California has nearly 171,000 state inmates in facilities designed to house 83,000. There are the consequences of such overcrowding, namely gang violence, inadequate medical care and lack of any meaningful attempts at rehabilitation. It appears that about 57% of those incarcerated in Federal prisons are there as a result of draconian laws against marijuana and other non-violent drug possession. As to all prisons, state and Federal, it is estimated that 1,000,000 out of the 2.9 million total are incarcerated for non-violent drug offenses.

Republicans base their political fortunes on hatred of taxation. They also insist on mandatory prison and sentences for non-violent crime. The simple truth is that we all want services and we all have to pay for them. As to prisons, one must pay for doubling and tripling capacities or reduce the prison population by releasing the inmates least likely to cause future harm.

California’s Governor has taken the only approach available.

A “liberal” thing? Nope, a rational one.

I think Arnold Schwarzenegger is going back to the roots of conservatism rather than adopting this modern concept of being a conservative in principle but something else entirely in policy.

I think WWW is just angry that Arnold has started a program to provide every californian healthcare and all these smaller details are not really her main concern.

It just doesn't sound sane, probably not even to her, to say something like 'Shwarzenneger and his idea to provide every Californian with healthcare is plain wrong!'.

Whats funny is liberals thought they were screwed over because a prominant democrat apparently married a conservative who would now take up a position of governor. I guess he may have brought the best of both worlds to California in the end. Of course I could be wrong, the line between liberal and conservative in my mind is redundant and it's simply a matter of serving the people in the best way possible as according to the state and time.

Hey Jim, This is not just a republican issue or democrat it's an America problem not just in California, but through the whole country.

I am a republican as you well know, but I feel that all crime should be punished, and no one should get a free pass not matter violent or non-violent.

But there should be some common sense used in sentencing non-violent crimes, instead of putting the burden on the State to pay for incarceration, home detention could be use.

With all the bright, and innovative people in our country surely some alternative forms of appropriate punishment that will satisfy everyone on both sides could be found.

That way they are punished, but the state is not under the pressure of feed housing, and in-curing the cost of their health care.

Let them still have the ability to earn a living, without destroying their families, but of course they should attend some counseling, and be placed on probation.

I feel in some instants prosecutors get to zealous prosecuting non-violent crimes. However violent criminals should not have the same consideration.

Arnold is a real conservative, and is acting like it. Funny, I think in the past Hillary would be called conservatitive. The neo-cons have been very successful at moving the entire agenda of the country to the right. But alas, the sands are shifting. Look for a more progressive America in the very near future.

Passive smoking not dangerous?
Jail every minor crook?

Does any really take such demands seriously?

Come on, look at the credibility of the source making these demands.

Hillary Clinton is a neo-con through and through. She's even been given something like $90,000 in donations from Fox News Corp.

Please tell us you source of information.

Hillary is no Conservative, she supports abortion, gay marriage, gun control, and higher taxes. That would disqualify her as a conservative in my book. Just because she voted for the war before she voted against doesn't make her a conservative.

if this is true Ahmed is shows that Fox isn't the Conservative bias News Station you all think it is. I am shocked and dismayed that my favorite news channel has turned liberal, what's this world coming to.

nothing, HIllary Clinton is very much pro-war and people who are friends with Rupert Murdoch are pro-war too. Put one and one together.

Sorry, this is a little off topic - but I'm wondering about the Texas ban on smoking in cars with children. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just that as a Texan, I have heard nothing about it. When I saw that, I did a search for it, and found one article (I think it was USAToday) that said "starting Jan. 1..." ban on smoking in foster homes at all times, and in cars when children are present. I found nothing else about it though. I've not heard anything on news, or read anything in local papers. When did this happen? Do you have a source?

I was a smoker for years. I don't like smoking bans, but I understand the need for them.

OH - I found it. It only applies to foster parents. They may not smoke at all in their homes, and they may not smoke in their cars if foster children are present.

I think this sort of ban is a good idea. I hate to admit that I've smoked around my kids - even in the car. Otherwise, I've always tried to be mindful of others. I didn't smoke around non-smokers (other than my family) and smoking bans in restaurants, etc. don't really bother me.

You ,are quite correct in that the present Texas law applies only to foster parent and foster children. However, individual cities are applying general car-rider laws as are many states in the U.S., cities and provinces in Canada and elsewhere. The trend is clear and will continue, I believe.
